“Always do sober what you said you’d do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.” Ernest Hemingway.
Caught the movie “Hemingway and Gellhorn” the other night and with Nicole Kidman it wasn’t a total waste of time. Movie is told from Gellhorn’s perspective so “Papa,” who really was a rolling stone, doesn’t come across too well. I always kind of knew that he was an Adam Henry sort of dude and this movie does nothing to improve that perception.
One scene shows Gellhorn set to leave Hemingway in Cuba where he is spending drunken days boating around looking for some German subs. It makes him look a little loony. I did some checking on that and found the following video. It gives a little better spin that Hemingway was not the drunken paranoid that he’s made out to be in the movie. Like always though, I’m sure that the truth is somewhere in the middle.
