Capt. Jimmy Cullison was in Buzzy’s Country Store the other day wearing the Mitt Romney-produced shirt shown here. It reminded me of something a former boss of mine Leonard Ferris often stated: “Anything you can say in the negative, you can say in the positive and still get your point across.” Let’s call it Leonard’s Law.
Thus, when I first heard President Obama’s “you didn’t build that” comment, Leonard’s Law came to mind. I immediately thought “Wow, he should not have said that.” It just sounded wrong. Also, I thought of Buzzy working 10 and 12 hours a day in this Store for 50-plus years. Granted, my Mom and my Grandfather helped him a lot, but bottom line is that Buzzy pretty much built this business by himself.
Since hearing the comment, I have read and understand completely the President’s out-of-context explanation. Still, it grated when I first heard it.
I see now where President Obama is backing off some and is semi-apologizing for the comment and that’s cool. For related story click here.
You might say that he is building a defense for the statement. Bet he won’t say that he’s building it with someone helping him.
