Festival of Lights

When Buzzy and I were in India at about this time of year, our tour guide discussed Diwali which is like the Hindu version of Christmas.  (I’m sure it’s probably the other way around but you get my point.) 

Because our tour ended on Diwali, our guide was in a hurry to drop us off and head home to be with his wife and young children.  He had purchased gifts during our travels around northern India and we helped him pack them so that he could maneuver his way to the train station.  

Buzzy and I were not scheduled to leave Delhi for our flight back to the States until 10 pm so we were put up in a nearby hotel to chill out.  I was anxious to be heading back home after being in India for two plus weeks, so I considered the “layover” a huge waste of time.  

However, turns out that we had a bird’s eye view of the celebration that went down  after dark.  Delhi’s entire city skyline lit up with fireworks for what seemed like hours.  It was quite the celebration.  

I was reminded of all this when I saw that today is the start of India’s 2012 Diwali celebration.  For more on Diwali check out this video:
