Craig and Kevin Adkins’ sister Linda was visiting them from Maine to celebrate Thanksgiving. When she visited Buzzy’s Country Store and surveyed the Buzzy Hat collection, she wondered why there was no New England Patriot’s hat in the collection. A few days later, she rolled into the Store wearing a Tom Brady jersey and proclaimed, “I’m taking this off and giving it to you.” I told her that women removing their clothes in the Store always makes me nervous and that she should just keep it on. Nevertheless, she took it off and donated it to the Buzzy collection. It’s now hanging in the Store and prompted me to write the following letter:
Dear Miss Manners:
Someone gave me a very nice and expensive gift that I don’t particularly care for. I tried to not accept it but she insisted I take it anyway. Am I obligated to keep this? Is there a tactful way I can return it to her and not hurt her feelings? Please advise.
