Christ May Have Risen, But Buzzy’s is Closed Today

Now if it was Buzzy who had risen from the dead, then the Store would be open today.

When I first took over Buzzy’s Country Store in May 2007, I created some churn by closing on Easter Sunday.  One of my regulars pointed out “Damn J. Scott, you’ve just doubled the number of days that Buzzy was ever closed.”  (For 50 plus years Buzzy only closed the Store one day a year and that was Christmas day.)

For years then, our family Easter dinner plans revolved around when Buzzy would be closing the Store.  On Easter Sunday he would have the Store open thru the early to mid afternoon and then would close up to rendezvous at Mom’s for dinner.

Consequently, he was always late to dinner because the Store would be crowded with all the folks who either did not have anywhere else to go or if they did, they weren’t in any hurry to get there.  As long as his crowd was drinking and spending money, Buzzy would honor the holiday accordingly by staying open.   (In his later years he did get a little better about throwing everyone out so he could make Mom’s on time.)   However, for over 50 years, he was always open for some period of time on Easter.  In recognition of his record, I’ll tip one his way when I re-open – tomorrow.
