Friends

A very nice and totally unforeseen result of running Buzzy’s Country Store is that I’ve been able to re-connect and keep up on a regular basis with many of my life-long friends.  All those years working on Base, doing kid-related things, trying to solve life’s problems and being always on the move, I’d see these guys occasionally out and about and we would tell each other that we needed to get together, but we never would.

Now that I am at Buzzy’s Country Store seven days a week, a captive audience so to speak, my old running mates can drop in periodically and we stay in touch.  Just last Sunday for example I was visited by 4 of my top 5 best buds – Robby Hall, Greg Madjeski,  Bobby Wright and Bart.    (I’d seen Mike Raley a couple days before.)  A bit later, in strolled Rocky Woodburn whom I hadn’t seen in quite awhile.  Rocky and his brother Pat are also guys I’ve known all my life along with Brothers Joe and Dickie Cullison and of course the McCoy boys Jody and Tom.    Find as I roll into my 4th quarter, I tend to value more and more having known all of these guys for so long.

Ordinarily I’d conclude with a video and the obvious choice would be Andrew Gold’s “Thank You for Being a Friend.”  However, that tune is on my B List because of its association with what I regard as the worst T-V sitcom ever – the Golden Girls.  Andrew, or whomever owns the rights to it, how could you have sold out like that and ruined such an otherwise good song?

So, how about this by JT and Carole King, 40 some years on and still saying it all.
