Ever heard of a disc jockey from Ohio named Jerry Healy? Yahoo answers gives him credit for coming up with the phrase T.G.I.F. in the early 70’s. However, the couple minutes I spent on the old google machine checking this out revealed that the restaurant chain TGI Fridays claims that their first business opened in 1965. Other websites just note that the phrase came about in the 60’s. So who knows who originated it for sure? Forest Gump probably had something to do with it. Did find a dumb blonde joke however.
An attractive blonde and a handsome man step into the same elevator. The blonde sighs happily and says ‘TGIF’, and is surprised when the man replies ‘SHIT’. The blonde thinks perhaps he didn’t hear her correctly, so she repeats it once again: ‘TGIF!’ and once again the man replies ‘S H I T’. Finally, the blonde explains ‘Sir, TGIF – Thank God it’s Friday!’ Stepping out of the elevator, the man smirks and says ‘S H I T – Sorry honey, it’s Thursday.’
Wonder if Tony’s ever eaten at a TGI Fridays?
