Mallory Lengel of The LexLeader was in Buzzy’s Country Store the other day offering me the opportunity to advertise in the website that she and Viki Volk-Russell have created – The Lex Leader. It’s a good site, serving as a one stop shop place for info and news on the County in general and the Pax River defense community specifically.
As Mallory explained their ad rates and I looked over their handouts, it reminded me of a Patuxent Partnership UAV event that Pam and I attended sometime back where our friend Tim Heely was speaking. Pam and I were checking in at the reception desk, and as the lady behind the table handed me my name tag with Buzzy’s Country Store noted on it she said “I was wondering what Buzzy’s Country Store had to do with this.” I told her that we launch UAV’s every night at Buzzy’s and that I wanted to learn more about them. However, I think that she missed the humor in what I said.
But back to The LexLeader, I thanked Mallory for the info and told her I would look it over. However, their asking price for one of their monthly ads approximates my entire yearly advertising budget. I tend to follow Buzzy’s approach to advertising which was fairly basic in that he didn’t believe in doing a lot of it particularly if he had to pay for it. He favored the old fashioned and very “cost effective” approach to advertising via word of mouth.
Thus, I hated to turn Mallory away empty handed but as I explained to her, it wasn’t personal it was just business. Right Tony?
