| 1983 World Series |
Found this old newspaper in my pile of sports memorabilia. Hard to believe it was 30 years ago. I remember watching the final game that Sunday at my then in-laws place in RoDo Beach. When the O’s won, I told the starter wife that we were going to celebrate. Clueless about sports’ things, she asked why I was making such a big deal out of this. I told her, “Because this may never happen again in my lifetime.” (Although I said that, I didn’t really believe it because the O’s 1983 win marked the third World Series that I had been around for them to win.) Little did I know then, I may have been correct in my reason to celebrate.
Another observation: that 1983 series ended on 17 October. Due to the expanded MLB playoff setup, today’s World Series doesn’t even commence until mid to late October. This year’s is set to begin 23 October. Go Cardinals. At least I can root for another kind of Birds.
