Steve Erwin has recently uploaded this tune on Youtube so I’ll pass it along to you (below.) (I’ve previously discussed it in another post (click here) but the video wasn’t available at the time.)
Interesting note about this song: Danny Gatton played guitar on it. Steve told me that when he recorded this and several other songs, he had booked time in a recording studio and had asked Danny to sit in. Steve said that because the studio charged by the hour, he had been hoping that Danny would show up a bit earlier than their studio start time so that they could rehearse a bit before starting to record. However, Danny showed up just as they were heading into the studio and proceeded to ask Steve to show him what they were about to play. Steve quickly ran thru the songs with Danny who then said “I got it.” Although Steve was worried how it would all come together, they proceeded.
Listen to this, and in particular the guitar work, and you’ll hear just how great Danny Gatton was – with or without any rehearsal. The solo (3:00) in particular is something else. Ultimately however, this song always makes me sad both because of it’s subject matter and the fact that Danny committed suicide in the fall on 4 October 1994.
