Bill Wyman

It was 20 years ago today that……. Bill Wyman officially retired from the Rolling Stones  As for what he’s been up to lately check out this WSJ article on him sitting around his study in Chelsea and not doing too much of anything click here.  Message to Bill, get yer ya’s ya’s out.

Also I went looking for a listing of his greatest bass riffs with the Stones and sure enough one of my favorites was there – the Pipeline intro rip off at the end of the Stones’ 19th Nervous Breakdown which he discusses here (click here.)  (To skip right to the riff go to the 3:29 mark.)

However, I was surprised to learn that many of my other favorite Stones’ bass lines e.g  Shattered, Heartbreaker, Tumbling Dice and  Live With Me were not played by Bill during the recording session (click here.) Here’s one that he did play.  Brings back some “sunshine” memories for me which I kind of believe is what they were talking about here – bass line and all.
