Speaking of hats (previous post) I found this Randsburg General Store hat in the Buzzy collection and made me wonder where it is.
Turns out that the town of Randsburg originated as a mining town named after the Rand Mine located in Southern California. The Randsburg Store began as the Jones Drug Store and then saw several iterations thru the years (see History below.)
Interesting note: Buzzy’s Country Store was built by Nathan Shuman in 1887 and purchased by my Grandfather Harry Raley from Nathan in 1945. In turn, Buzzy bought the Store from Harry in 1953. Thus, Buzzy’s has been in the hands of only two families since its beginnings. Note the several changes of ownership of the Randsburg Store which started approximately the same time – 1896.
Another observation, note the Randsburg business changes thru the years from drug store to general store to today’s operation as a restaurant. Buzzy’s has remained pretty much a country store albeit one with a bar room venue. For more info on the Randsburg Store and its history click here.
Now that I know all about the Randsburg General Store however, my follow up question is – how did Buzzy come to own the hat? I never heard him mention visiting Randsburg so I assume that someone gave it to him. May have to refer to this hat as the Randsburg Mystery Hat.
