Journey performs at Calvert Marine Museum this weekend. Learned that it was the Sopranos’ final 2007 episode titled “Made in America” featuring Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing song that caused Journey to seek out and find a new lead singer so they could tour again. That they discovered a Filipino cover dude on Youtube (click here) makes the “made in America” a little ironic.
The Sopranos people had to clear using the song with Steve and the boys (click here) because Perry didn’t want the song used as background music if the accompanying video showed the Soprano family getting killed, i.e. wacked in mafiaese. There are number of articles dissecting the Sopranos’ ending (click here) and the choice of that particular song to accompany it.
And speaking of made in the USA, a ranking of the Greatest American Rock Bands has Journey coming in at #5 behind Pearl Jam, Aerosmith, Van Halen and the Eagles (click here.) Bad list. No argument with the Eagles being in this top 5 but having these other 4, including Journey, ranked ahead of the likes of Creedence Clearwater, the Grateful Dead, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers is bogus. I could make a case for Tom and the Heartbreakers being Number 1 given that they are still getting it done:
