Lately I have been listening to the Groove on XM’s Channel 50. When they played a Luther Vandross tune the other day it brought back a funny little memory for me.
In another life, I used to work with a very nice lady who out of the blue started going to one of those tambourine shaking, wanna be church groups and got religion. One Monday morning she came into work and gave me all of her Luther Vandross CD’s. She said that her preacher had told her that Luther was the devil’s music and that she needed to get it out of her life. I suggested to her that maybe the preacher man just couldn’t get past the fact that Vandross’ first name was Luther.
So to save her soul, I accepted her gifts and soon became a Luther fan myself. Check him out here with Ms. Mariah. (Wonder why she’s been staying so quiet lately? Hope she hasn’t hooked up with some crazy preacher man, gotten religion and stopped with the devil’s music.)
