Happy Epic Pi Day

For some dumb reason, perhaps a tribute to my Ryken High math teacher Brother Romuald’s teaching prowess, I’ve always known the value of Pi as the fraction 22/7.  Even though I could extrapolate it out to 3.14 etc., it was the fraction and not 3.14 that I have always associated as being Pi.

You’re So Smart Why Not Smile?

That explains, I guess, why I never thought of Pi as something to celebrate today on 3/14 aka National Pi Day.  It even has its own .org website to tell you all you ever needed or wanted to know about it (click here.)

On the other hand, again for some unknown reason, I did know that today was also the birthday of our numero uno genius Albert Einstein (click here.)  Only appropriate then that it coincides with Pi’s day.

But guess what?  Not only is today Pi Day but also it is EPIC Pi Day because it marks the only time in a century that the first 9 decimals of Pi can correspond to the date and time as in 3.141592653.  So this morning at 9:26:53 be sure to tip one to Pi.  You may not be around for the 2115 epic reoccurrence of it.
