April Birthdays and T.S. As In B.S.

Buzzy’s Country Store family April birthdays include Tommy Dean 2 Apr, Bertie Taylor and  Kevin McKay on the 3rd, Butch Wood 16th, Pat Adams 17th,  Jack Flatly 23rd, Malinda Ripson 24 Apr, and her husband Jay 27 April and Juan Garcia on the 30th.

My immediate family April birthdays include – son Shea on the 7th, niece Rilynn Taylor 18th, daughter-in-law Caitie 24th, nephew Emerson Taylor 28th and wife Pam on the 29th.

Is April really the cruelest month?  T.S. said so (click here) but that’s about the only thing in that convoluted mess of his that I understood him saying.    Having sat thru a couple of English professors’ explanations of it,  I never did know what The Waste Land was all about.

Even now, with time on my hands to Google the hell out of it and parse thru all the critiques,  I still find myself wondering what the hell is he talking about?  Over 400 lines long, comprised of five parts, references to the Holy Grail, a Fisher King, a Tarot Deck reader, and some conversations with ghosts, etc., it is just one long, word drunk ramble and yet it’s deemed one of the most important pieces of poetry.  Go figure.

April may not have been the cruelest month but Eliot’s poem is certainly a candidate for the cruelest of poems.  (You too can try reading it by clicking on the link below this photo.  Good luck!)  Brings up the question – is writing one great line enough of an accomplishment to offset and forgive the churning out another 433 of unreadable crap?  I’m not so sure it does.
