Casey Casem’s post-death and family squabbles (previous post) were matched and maybe exceeded by the gyrations surrounding baseball legend Ted Williams’ death (click here.)
Ted signed a napkin saying that he wanted to be cryonically preserved even though his will stipulated that he be cremated and his ashes spread among the Florida Keys. As his head was cryonically stored away, his kids sued each other over what to do. I remember hearing Howard Stern discuss this and wonder “Does that mean if the daughter who wants him cremated wins the case, will they have to thaw out his head before they cremate him?” (In case you are wondering, there are two types of cryonics – whole body and neuropreservation as is the case with Ted’s head (click here.) And speaking of Dead Heads, I saw Bob Weir’s documentary The Other One and it was pretty good. If you get a chance check it out.
Guess by now you’ve heard about the Dead’s Fare Thee Well tour this weekend and next (click here.) (The Dead on Facebook still doesn’t seem right does it?) Unfortunately, I was unable to talk them into doing a farewell show at Buzzy’s Country Store. Maybe I’ll contact Claudia above and see if she’ll let me put Ted’s head on display in the Store.
