Guy in Buzzy’s Country Store the other day asked me “Does it get very dark here at night?” At first I thought he was just joking around as he and his buddy had been in the Store awhile and they both liked to joke and laugh. ( Happy retirees they called themselves. They and their wives were renting one of Peggy’s places and they were out and about securing booze for the evening dinner.)
The second time the guy asked me how dark it gets and I just looked at him quizzically with my are-you-for-real look. He explained that Scotland is rated as one of the two best spots in Maryland for sky viewing. “Just Google Maryland Dark Sky and you’ll see.”
Well guess what? Turns out he was correct (click here.)
I mention this today because next Wednesday night you may want to take a glance up at the skies as we’re due for a meteor shower. This from the Washington Post discusses the upcoming Perseid Meteor Showers that will occur the 12th and 13th between 10pm and 4 am.. (You know you are an old fart when you see that window of opportunity and think that the 4 am slot is preferable to the 10pm one because you will be asleep in bed by 10.)
Some great lyrics to this Stephen Stills tune. Click here for a recent Post look at Still’s and his career.
