Flashback Friday: Country Stores – Montgomery County

Many of my tourist visitors who come into Buzzy’s Store will relate something to the effect “There was a country store like this where I grew up.  I used to go there when I was a kid and get penny candy.”  Seems like everyone has a country store reference somewhere in their past. Whenever someone tells me a story like this I ask them what became of the store.  Most times they don’t know or will note that it’s long been torn down and replaced with something else.

A few weeks ago, on a Sunday afternoon, pre-4 O’clock Club, a couple were sitting in Buzzy’s drinking a beer and relaxing.   (They have a boat at Tall Timbers Marina and had come down to the Store to sign up for the then-scheduled Buzzy Smith Island trip.)

A guy came in the Store and noted that he used to own a country store in Montgomery County similar to Buzzy’s but had sold it a few years ago.  My Tall Timbers’ friend began talking with the guy and turns out that he not only knew where the store was but also had been there several times when he lived in MC.  While they were conversing, I had some other visitors in the Store and didn’t really get to find out the name of the store or where the store was exactly in MC.  The guy then left before I could follow up with him.)

However, a few minutes later another couple came into the Store and they mentioned that Buzzy’s reminded them of a store in Germantown, Montgomery County named Cedar Grove. Sure enough, my Tall Timbers friend knew and had been in that one too!  I did manage to get some particulars on Cedar Grove.

They also have a FB page  click here.
For no other reason than it has the word grove in it, here then is a Doobies’ song:
