Saturday night at Buzzy’s Country Store and things were flowing pretty good. Two birthday celebrations, one for Bruce Price and one for Ned kept things hopping. About 8:30 in strolled Charlie Simms and the place erupted as if Elvis himself had walked in. “Hey Charlie, you on the motorcycle?” “What are you trick or treating?” “It’s not 4 o’clock!” “You out here picking up women?” were just a couple of the greetings to Charlie as he came to counter, gave me a $20 and said “Get one for whoever needs one.” I told him that this crowd didn’t really need one but I’d ring the bell anyway.
As Charlie got his beer and settled down to talk to someone at the bar counter, I told Greg Madjeski “That’s what I’d like to be doing at 89 – walk into some redneck bar on a Saturday night, have everyone there glad to see me and then buy all of them a round.” You go Charlie!
Here’s Charlie on his first motorcycle when he was 22 years old. Funny thing, he doesn’t look too much differently than he does now.
