Unlike other years where I made sure that I saw all of the Academy Award nominated movies before the Oscars were presented, this year I missed a few (Room and Revenant.) Room I plan to eventually see but will have to pass on Revenant even if it did win Best Actor. From what I have seen and heard about it though, it sounds like an awful movie to spend time watching. When DiCaprio is not being mauled by a bear, he sleeps inside of a dead horse and I don’t need to pay good money to see that. I’ll catch it on a plane trip somewhere.
As for the other nominated films, I still don’t see how Mad Max made it on the list because it was just one big chase scene. Makes me empathize some with those black critics who think they somehow got slighted because Outta Compton, Creed and or Concussion were overlooked. At least one of those three should have been on the best list vice Mad Max. (Then again, Max won six awards last night so what do I know?)
Bridge of Spies was very good even if it was a little slow in places. I saw it twice and enjoyed it as much the second time as I did the first viewing. Likewise, Brooklyn was a nice movie and the leading lady Saoirse Ronan definitely deserved to be nominated for, if not win, the Best Actress award.
Big Short, about the banking and housing scandal, I like best of all of the nominated movies that I saw. However, it was probably abit too scary and close to home for Hollywood, which is a crooked business also, to have been rewarded with an Oscar.
Spotlight remains the most powerful movie that I saw and should be mandatory watching for all religious-minded folks particularly Catholics. (Quick aside here: For all of the priest pedophilia b.s. that went on all those years ago, I have not once met nor talked to anyone here in the County who said that a priest ever tried to play around with him. Leads me to wonder – did sicko priests not fool with country boys? If it was so prevalent back then and the powers-that-be shifted these turdball priests around like they did, why did none of them ever make it down our way? Maybe we just lucked out.)
As for my pick of best movie of 2015, it would be one that didn’t get nominated – Ex Machina. The young lady playing the robot, won Best Supporting Actress for her role in another movie the Danish Girl. However, she was also very good in this scary/trippy little movie about Artificial Intelligence.
