Yesterday was Dick’s birthday so I thought I’d do something here in his honor.
Dick was introduced to Buzzy thru Polock years ago when they would fish off the causeway at Pt. Lookout. Dick had initially had a bad run in with Buzzy his first time in the Store. Evidently he caught Buzzy at the wrong time, didn’t know the Buzzy drill of giving people a hard time just for the hell of it, and consequently became a Rick’s Marine patron whenever he needed supplies.
So when Polock suggested to Dick that they take a break from fishing and run up to Buzzy’s for a beer, Dick couldn’t believe that Polock not only patronized Buzzy’s but kind of liked “the old man” (Polock’s words.) Dick told Polock that Buzzy was “nothing but a cranky old SOB” (Dick’s words.) Polock brought Dick into Buzzy’s and the rest is history. Eventually Dick moved his camper alongside Polock’s here at the Store where it remains to this day.
Thru the years Dick and Polock used to schedule their vacations to spend a week at Buzzy’s Country Store. They would fish and party but they would also do work around the Store for Buzzy. (They would also drink throughout all these efforts.) Buzzy would have a list of things for them to do such as clean the gutters, paint, perform maintenance on the a/c and beer cooler compressors, oil the floor, etc. As I said, in between and during the execution of these chores, Dick and Polock would drink.
Somewhere along the line Buzzy nicknamed Dick with a combination of Dick’s first and last names – Dick Ed. (The fact that he pronounced it “Dickhead” was Buzzy’s twist on it.)
Music always played a role in their visits to Buzzy’s as Polock often played guitar and Dick played everything from the wash tub to a harmonica. They have continued this tradition thru today with their Kareoke sessions on the porch. And yes, drinking is still part of their routine.

Happy Birthday wishes Dick! Glad Polock convinced you that Buzzy wasn’t the cranky SOB you first thought he was.
I looked thru all of Buzzy’s photos and couldn’t come up with a decent photo of Buzzy, Polock and Dick. However, check out this great piece of wood work done by Darlene and Robbie Wood where they not only captured the three of them but even got Bruno in the mix.
Just because it has it in the title, here’s a re-run of this one:
