Young man named Andrew walked into Buzzy’s Country Store yesterday and after seeing Buzzy’s Bill Collection presented me a piece of currency worth 10,000 (above.) Not in dollars – unfortunately but in Dongs, Viet Nam’s currency.
Andrew informed me that the 10,000 Dong contribution to the Buzzy Bill Collection was equal to about 50 cents of our money. Lot of dong jokes I could make here but I’ll spare you right now because I want to tell you more about Andrew and his friend Destiny shown here.
They are from both from South Carolina. Andrew is a Marine stationed at Bolling Air Force Base.
Destiny just graduated from Charleston Southern University and is here visiting Andrew before she begins her post-college career in Criminal Justice. They told me how Buzzy’s reminded them of a little country store/gas station in Springfield, South Carolina named Sawyerdale Store.
Back to the 10,000 Dong, I placed it in the Buzzy Bill collection below the $1,000 replica and to the right of the shamrock.
In all the years and many times that I’ve heard this song, don’t think I ever really knew the lyrics other than there was something about bullshit in there somewhere:
Money, get away. Get a good job with good pay and you’re okay.
Money, it’s a gas. Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash.
New car, caviar, four star daydream, Think I’ll buy me a football team.
Money, get back. I’m all right Jack keep your hands off of my stack.
Money, it’s a hit. Don’t give me that do goody good bullshit.
I’m in the high-fidelity first class traveling set And I think I need a Lear jet.
Money, it’s a crime. Share it fairly but don’t take a slice of my pie.
Money, so they say Is the root of all evil today.
But if you ask for a raise it’s no surprise that they’re giving none away.
