I have discussed previously (click here) how the two Shuman brothers Max and Nathan each started a store in the Ridge/Scotland area. Nathan started Buzzy’s while his brother Max built and operated what those of us of certain age know as Buddy Greenwell’s Store. It stood on the corner of Airdele Road and Rt. 5.
In his book Clarence Bradburn discusses how Max Shuman shot someone one night following an altercation earlier in his store. The following are excerpts from Mr. Bradburn’s Some Important People and Events of St. Mary’s. Mr. Bradburn begins by telling how Max would take his horse and wagon down to the end of Airdele Road to pickup waterman to come shop at his store.
