First St Michael's Church

Speaking of barns, check out this photo of the first St. Michael’s Church.  Looks like a barn with  a steeple doesn’t it?

It was located just below Buzzy’s Country Store directly across the road from Harry Beale’s/the Beaver’s House.   Mr. Clarence Bradburn wrote in his book Some Important People and Events of St. Mary’s how the Church came to be:

Mr. Bradburn goes on to discuss how heavy rains brought flood waters to the Church property.  When coffins began floating out of the Church’s cemetery, folks weren’t too happy with the Scotland location.  Hence, they pulled a George Jefferson and moved on up to St. Michael’s current location in Ridge.
