If you ask any small businessman “How’s business?” you will rarely if ever get an honest answer. The customary response from them is usually a variation of Buzzy’s answer: “I’m just like the Federal Government. I’ve been losing money every year I’ve been here.” (Buzzy had another line that worked pretty well too where he would respond “Business is great. I took in under a million dollars last year.” Sometimes folks didn’t get it and would act impressed with “Wow. That’s pretty good.” When they did so, Buzzy would then follow up with “True. Way under a million.”
And while on the subject of money how bout this joke:
What do sex and a bank account have in common?
Answer: Once you withdraw, you lose all interest! (I didn’t say it was a good joke now did I? Too I think there may be a better punchline in there somewhere having to do with penalties for early withdrawals.)
Back to trying to be semi-serious for a moment on this Halloween Eve, here is something on business success that I found quoted from Richard Branson on his Virgin website (click here.)
Somewhere between Mr. Ford’s “A business that makes nothing but money is a poor business,” and Mr. Branson’s philosophies – particularly the “enjoy what you’re doing” secret – is where I hope my Buzzy’s Country Store business model resides. I’ll be the first to now know when it is no longer fun.
Little known JT Money song wherein he even pokes a fun at himself (1:45 mark) by singing:
When I began the game
See me singing ’bout the fire and rain
Let me just say it again
I’ve seen fives and I’ve seen tens
