This past Saturday Frankie Tippett dropped into Buzzy’s Country Store in search of info on old bars and taverns in the area. He is working on a Historical Society project that he will be presenting in May.
Through his work in researching, collecting and posting old photos for all of us to enjoy, Frankie has become our County Historian. He posts most of his research on Massey’s Facebook page You Know You Are From St. Mary’s Co. If . A sample follows:

As stated, while in Buzzy’s Saturday, Frankie was doing research on old South County bars and taverns. Because Buzzy’s is one of the few old time watering holes still operating, Frankie said he knew where to drop in for info on old places in and around the Ridge area. From talking to several Buzzy friends who were on hand to assist him, Frankie found a treasure trove of info.

He asked about Patsy’s Tavern which none of us were familiar with. (Herbie subsequently told me that his Dad Lindy informed him that Patsy ran it before Joe Rapp/Hike and Louise called it Triangle Tavern. Frankie had seen the following in an old St. Mary’s Beacon newspaper.)
When we informed Frankie of an old bar at Cornfield Harbor, he said goodbye and headed down to Cornfield Harbor to take a picture of the old Cornfield Harbor Restaurant that Hattie and Boob Dunbar once ran.
Speaking of old photos Frankie Goes to Hollywood took their name from an old movie poster. Their first song (below) was banned by the BBC which helped keep it Number One on the British charts for 5 consecutive weeks. Not sure exactly what was so offensive about it to get it banned.
