Flicks on a Plane

The only good thing about an 8 hour plane trip home is that it is doing just that – taking you home.  If pressed to come up with something else good about such a trip I would say that it gives you a chance to watch some movies.  For instance on my plane ride home I caught Blackkklansman, Bohemian Rhapsody and The Bill Murray Stories all of which I enjoyed and found myself thinking about several times afterwards because they were so well done.  (For instance I have not yet been been able to get Queen tunes out my head with “Buddy you’re a young man” and “Radio Ga Ga” etc. continually running thru my head.)

But having said all that about these 3 very good movies that I saw, the one that intrigued me the most and made me do some follow up on it was one that I only saw a very small portion of.

The dude across the aisle and up one row from me watched some Keanu Reeves action packed movie that every once in awhile I would take a look at to see what was going on.  In one scene, a beautiful woman sashays through a dance hall and then enters a private room where Keanu suddenly appears behind her.  Anticipating something hot and sexy about to go down, I paused what I was watching and turned my full attention to the scene.

Sure enough, the beautiful lady sheds her clothes as Keanu looks on, shakes her long dark hair and steps into a hot tub where she proceeds to slit her wrists.  Knowing nothing about the movie’s plot line, I am thinking “WTF was that all about!” Keanu then comes over, sits next to her and holds her hand as she bleeds out.  Keanu then flees and a humungous shoot out ensues.

I went back to watching the Bill Murray documentary on him walking around “memory bombing” people by suddenly dropping in on them.  It is a very funny and great movie by the way (click here for review and preview.)   However, it was the Keanu movie scene that stayed with me.

Once back home, in between “Bad mistakes, I’ve made a few” and “You’re my best friend” ricocheting around in my head, I found myself wondering just what the hell went down in that Keanu scene where the beautiful lady slit her wrists in the bath tub.  So I googled it and learned that it was from the movie John Wicks 2.  Here is the scene that I saw:

In case you too are clueless about the John Wick story and are wondering about this scene, the short answer is that he was there to kill her, she knew that he was and so she decided to control her own fate by offing herself before he did it for her. Makes only a little more sense I guess as to how she bit the dust.

(P.S. The entire movie was on T-V the other night but I could only watch it up until this scene was showed.)

Rami Malek won the Best Actor Academy Award for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.
