Baseball – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Someone asked me the other day why I have not done any baseball-related posts here on the Buzzyblog. This person complimented me by saying that he enjoyed my baseball musings and missed reading them.  (During baseball season I usually try and do a monthly post on how the Orioles and the Nationals are doing.  This year however, mostly because both teams have been playing so poorly,  I have not paid any attention to either of them.)  In a way my losing interest in baseball, feels like I’ve lost an old friend that I used to be close to and enjoyed hanging out with.  (As you can see, in addition to ignoring baseball I am also ignoring the old grammatical admonition – a preposition is a bad word to end a sentence with.)

But to semi-maintain my baseball cred, I do have three baseball-related items for you that recently visited my Buzzy’s Country Store collection of useless information.

First up (get it?) there is this summary of the top 3 sports streaks or records, that will never be broken.  Note that they are all baseball-related.

Next there is this crazy story on former Red Sox star David Ortiz getting shot in a Dominican Republic night club.  Ortiz was shot in the back and several folks have been arrested.  For those of you not familiar with the story click here but be forewarned – it’s a weird story that will probably only get weirder as more details are revealed.  My first guess was that it was a hit job from either a drug gang or someone whose wife Ortiz was banging.  Like our President is wont to say “We’ll just have to wait and see.”

Finally, literally, there is this baseball joke about an elderly, 90 year old man dying.  His old friend, also in his 90’s, came to visit him on his death bed and asked for a favor.  “Can you see if there is baseball being played in heaven and come back to let me know if it is?”  The old guy died, went to heaven, saw baseball being played and appeared to his friend in a dream to say “I have some good news and some bad news for you.  The good news is that there is baseball in heaven.”  His friend asks “What’s the bad news?”  The guy replied “You’re pitching tomorrow.”

Music-wise here is a trippy little tune for you that seems sorta appropriate here given that the tone is upbeat but the lyrics are a little on the dark side.  Sorta like this overall post today.
