Sad to Glad

As I noted in yesterday’s post, Christmas cards and notes always tend to cheer me up.  It’s nice to hear from folks, particularly those you have not heard from in awhile, and know that they still care enough about you to at least send you a card.  Whenever they include notes and photos in the card it is even nicer because now you can see how they are doing and what they are up to.

Conversely, my Mom’s Christmas card to me this year was another matter entirely.  The card was nice enough on the outside, but check out what she wrote on the inside of it:

I think she was trying to write “deteriorate” but I didn’t have the heart to ask her if that’s really what she meant to write.  All in all it made me sad.  I guess that Christmas cards are a little like people – some are nicer than others.

But hey, I don’t want to leave you on such a blue note so let’s instead talk about something fun like partying!

Buzzy’s New Year’s Eve It’s Midnight Somewhere  party will commence next Tuesday starting around 5 pm.  At 5 pm here, it will be midnight in Athens, Greece so that is our excuse to start dropping the 10 ounce Bud and have a glass of champagne.  After that we will continue to drop the Bud and drink champagne toasts each hour til say 9 pm.

Food-wise you never know just what will be served up at Buzzy’s but if you have a favorite dish bring it to share.  It’s Ned’s Tuesday pizza night at Buzzy’s but I’ll see if we can’t muster up some other nice things to nibble on as we celebrate goodbye 19 hello 2020.

Charles Brown was a Texas blues man who was inducted into the R&R HoF in 1999.  You’re probably more familiar with songs he wrote such as Merry Christmas Baby and Please Come Home for Christmas tunes.  But check out this organ fused New Year’s tune he also wrote.  Funny isn’t it how there are so many Christmas tunes and yet so few New Year’s ones.
