I posted something the other day about Hilda Mowery and her Pink Elephant establishment (click here.) Following her ownership of the Pink Elephant Hilda then started and operated a chimney sweep business as discussed in the following excerpt (click here.)
There was also this conversation about Hilda and her Chimney Sweep business on Massey’s FB page You Know You’re From St. Mary’s....
So when Pat Guy hit the counter at Buzzy’s Country Store the other day sporting a Chimney Sweep shirt I had to ask him about it.
Pat noted that he used to help the Mowery’s out cleaning chimneys. I asked him how long he did that and he laughed and said “Long enough to get this shirt with my initials on it.” (GB = Guy Boy.)
The irony of this conversation is that we had it with the following County Times newspaper on the counter:
Note that the Chimney Sweep phone number on Pat’s shirt is the same as the one in the current ad. Pat informed me that he thinks Robbie Pegg owns the business now but it is managed by Mike Milburn. Now if either of them walks into Buzzy’s the next couple of days……
There is only one song to be played here right? (Dick Van Dyke turned 94 this past December 13th! This song won an Academy Award in 1964’s Mary Poppins. There was some churn about Dick’s accent not being too cool (click here) but so what, he still got the job done. Hey, all accents sound funny to me, so what’s the big deal?!)
