Happy Sinko!

OK, Chief Larry may have been a couple days early when he posted this on his FB page a few days ago, but I thought it was worth showing again today.  Turns out that the Snopes folks did indeed have to debunk a claim that Hellmann’s mayonaise was aboard the Titanic and hence became the reason for today’s named event (click here).

Yesterday marked the anniversary of Gene Vincent recording Be-Bop-a-Lula in 1956.  For such a simple song, there is a lot of background churn to it beginning with how Gene came to write it.  He did so while he was convalescing in a Navy hospital following a very bad motorcycle accident (click here.)

Then there is a big Beatles connection with and to Gene and Be-Bop-A-Lula.  It was the first record that Paul ever bought when he was about 14 years old (click here.)   Then, about a year later Paul attended an event where a musician was on stage singing Be-Bop-a-Lula.  That bloke of course was John Lennon and well, you know the rest of the story.  Years later the Beatles would appear as the warm act for Gene Vincent when he toured Germany.   As they say what goes around comes around
PS I also learned that there is a country store in Gene’s past. I will tell you about that tomorrow.
