On 10 June in 2008 Mike Mussina was pitching in his last year in MLB and notched his 10th win of the season. That win marked an Americal League record for 17 consecutive seasons of winning 10 or more games. Later in that 08 season Mike would then win his 20th game of the season and become the oldest pitcher ever to win 20 games for the first time. Mike entered the Hall of Fame in 2019.
Mike has recently been back in the news Orioles-wise because the O’s assigned their rookie catcher Adley Rutchman Mussina’s old number 35. (For related story click here.)
Back when times were simpler, I can remember having this Sports Illy issue showing Mike and his Orioles’ teammate Ben McDonald on its cover.
