Nice story in today’s Washington Post about 103 year old Virginia Oliver who continues to work lobstering three times a week with her 80 year old son. Her mentioning (8:30 mark) that she grew up in her father’s general store caught my attention but I couldn’t find any further information on it. (Never did find out her maiden name which may have helped in tracking down her Dad and his store.)
But the above video is worth checking out as Virginia discusses her life on and off the water all these years. At the 25:45 mark she gives a humorous account of visiting a doctor after being bitten by a crab and the Doc asking her “What are you doing out there anyway?” She answered him “Because I wanna.” I like the way she always ended making her points by laughing. Great lady and a great inspiration/example on how to get old: keep moving.
