TWTFG

For some time now I have been thinking about a new Buzzyblog Friday feature discussing “Things We Take For Granted” or TWTFG. (You ask why Friday? Well, I was trying to incorporate TGIF somehow as in Taking for Granted Important Things or something like that, but opted instead to name it what it is – TWTFG.) Here then is the inaugural Buzzyblog about Things We Take For Granted.

Just yesterday as I sat in traffic awaiting the flag lady to let me proceed thru the construction zone, the thought crossed my mind “Here is something I always take for granted – that I will be able to drive to Ridge and NOT have to sit in traffic.” With construction going on at both the College and 235 there is presently no avoiding it.

Thinking “OK, got my first TWTFG – good roads to get us where we want and need to go,” it reminded me of when Buzzy and I visited Capetown, South Africa many years ago. As our tour guide explained to us how they had recently completed construction of the highway we were on, Buzzy asked him “What took you so long?” About that time our bus went into this tunnel, through a mountain and our guide said “This.” Turns out that it was the Huguenot Tunnel that they had been planning and working on since the 1930’s. It opened in 1988. Much of the delays in constructing it had to do with having to drill through granite. No puns here about taking it for granite.

Back to Things We Do Take For Granted, a few minutes ago I checked out today’s weather forecast and this popped up:

Guess I Am A Member of a Sensitive Group – Old Farts!

Now I am thinking “OK, that’s something else I never used to consider and always took for granted – having fresh air!”

Just yesterday there was a couple in Buzzy’s Country Store who had been to Pt. Lookout, and noted that while they enjoyed doing so, they couldn’t believe how bad the air was here. They said that they were from Pittsburgh where they are used to bad air, but never thought that they would encounter it here. I told them “Join the club. I never thought it would be something we’d have to worry about either.” Again something else we take for granted.

Bottom line – enjoy what you got while you got it. You never know when it will be gone. Cody Johnson won several CMT awards as well as made a lot of money singing about that dynamic in this hit tune of his:
