I was going to save this for Twofer Tuesday but with Hurricane Hilary about to slam into San Diego this morning, my daughter Reagan is on my mind today. She and her boyfriend Ben live in northeast San Diego which is slated to receive the brunt of Hurricane Hilary later this morning.
I spoke with Reagan last night and she told me that they have stocked up on batteries, candles and food supplies and are hunkered down awaiting Hilary’s arrival. With predictions of strong winds, heavy rainfall and some severe flooding, San Diego has never had to deal with the likes of such a major storm (click here.) Here’s hoping that things work out for everyone.
Meanwhile farther west in Maui, for the past couple weeks it has been my daughter Ryan whom I have been thinking of and concerned about. (I guess no matter how old you or they get, Dads are always gonna worry about their kids whenever shit happens.)
Ryan and her Maui neighbors and friends continue to regroup following the devastating fires that swept across their island beginning on 8 August. At the peak of the fires I texted Ry to see if she was doing ok. She noted that she had had to evacuate because the fires were closing in on the area where she lived.
Note – my thanks to all of you who contacted me to ask if Ryan was ok. I forwarded those inquiries to her and told her that she had several folks here who were thinking of and concerned about her. She responded:
I like that – celebrate the joy of life! See you later today at Buzzy’s Country Store and we can do just that!
Guess you know what song is coming, but bet you never thought it would be this version which, believe it or not, I kinda like how ole Andy does it. Then again, it’s such a great song that it’s tough to muck it up too much. All that said however, for some other, less schmaltzy covers of it (click here.)
