Regarding yesterday’s Buzzyblog post about August Vacations, here are a couple other vacation-related thoughts that crossed my mind.
First off, a correction is in order: I assumed incorrectly that August is the most popular month for vacations. Turns out that from the 2 1/2 minutes research I did on the matter, that August comes in a distant fourth as the most popular vacation month proving once again that I don’t what the hell I’m talking about. (Europeans do tend to favor the month of August however, so maybe my mistake stems from watching too much BBC (click here.))
The following is from a March 2022 survey that asked Americans when they planned to take their vacations:

I recall reading some travel article recommending that a person take 3 vacations. Remember that most travel magazines exist to make you want to travel more not less. Hence, their recommending you take three vs one or two vacations.
The article noted that the family vacation is the one most people do and it is usually a colossal pain and the worst one to take. Jim Gaffigan nailed it perfectly here when he described the family vacation as the opportunity to “spend an enormous amount of money, be uncomfortable and listen to my children complain and whine.”
As for Vacation Two, the travel article recommended that couples go away together for some kid-free time even if it is for only a day or two (or however long they can talk the Grandparents into babysitting for them.) Vacation Three in the article concluded by noting that the best vacation for relaxing and restoring one’s mo jo is to go somewhere solo. Leave it all behind and just get away on your own.
Reminds me of a lady Buzzy and I met on our trip to Iceland. She was traveling by herself and one evening at cocktail hour with Buzzy she told us a funny story. She said that she and her husband were raising their grandson who told her “Grandma, do you know what Grandpa does as soon as you get in the cab to go to the airport for one your trips? He starts singing and dancing around the house!” She laughed as she told us this story and noted “What I didn’t say back is that I am in the cab singing and feeling happy too that I am getting away from him for awhile!”
Belinda solo and still getting it done here at the Capitol 4th of July celebration just last month. (Sure seems like a long time ago already doesn’t it?)
