Catching up on T-V shows I missed while being away for the past two weeks, Bill Maher’s take on too much regulation rant (below) really hit home – literally!
While in Greece, a local tour guide mentioned a transportation problem that her government was trying to fix by saying “They say that they have a plan to fix this, but the plan has been stuck for the last 10-15 years. So who knows?” I said to Pam at the time “Sounds like back home and the Thomas Johnson Bridge.”
As Maher discusses how difficult it is to try and obtain government approvals to do something, it reminded me of what Peggy Binzel at Pier 450 and Sherry and Dave Thompson at St. James Deli had to go thru in order to get their operations renovated and back up and running. (Note – I would recommend that you NOT bring this up with Peggy, Sherry nor Dave as it is a little bit of a sore subject with them.) Let’s leave it that the approval process they had to go thru, as Maher notes, was much more cumbersome than it needed to be.
Walt Kelly gets the credit for his paraphrasing of a military saying in this anti-pollution poster he did in 1970.
Watch the Bill Maher segment and you’ll find yourself completely in agreement with him:

And since I nicked Bill’s subtitle for the title of this, here is the original song written by Motown’s songwriting team of Holland-Dozier-Holland. Ironically, this was performed at one of our cruise ship evening shows and prompted me to think “Man, this is a great song. I need to put that on the Buzzyblog sometime in the future” Well, as George Allen always maintained “The future is now.” Thank you Bill for reminding me.
