My daughter Ryan lives in Maui in what is referred to as the Up Country. Located in the south central part of Maui, the area is famous for the Back Road to Hana and the Haleakala Crater both of which I have done previously.
When Ry asked if we wanted to take the back road to Hana again, I gave her a quick and emphatic “No.” (I have discussed our previous trip to Hana via the “back road” in a 2022 post (click here.) Done it and don’t need to do it again.
I told Ryan that instead of risking our lives again trying to drive the back road to Hana, I wanted to head south along the Kula Highway and check out a couple of “Up Country” “country stores that I had seen in my internet travels.
First up, we stopped at Henry Fong’s Store in downtown Keokea. (Like Buzzy’s is the center of downtown Scotland, Fong’s is it in Keokea.)

Description of Fong’s from a local travel guide:

Then I found this is from their FB page (click here.)

Lots of famous highway songs to choose from, but America’s remains one of my favorites, particularly when it is set to a video filmed along an ocean highway courtesy of Ned Miller:
