As the NCAA Men’s Tourney kicks in today, here is a nice redemption story for you.
Long Beach State Coach Dan Monson was fired last week, but allowed to continue coaching his guys thru their Conference tournament (click here.)
Well, guess what Dan did? Coached his guys to win 3 games in a row to win the Tournament Championship and thereby earning them an automatic bid to the Big Dance. At 2 p.m. today, 15th seeded Long Beach State will tip off against Number 2 seeded Arizona. And yes we’ll have the game on at Buzzy’s Country Store.
As for overall NCAA Tourney news, there was this story:

Naturally, this led to some partisan comments as follows:

As for my humble prediction(s), I am going history on it with a Maryland connection and predicting that Purdue wins it all. My reasoning is convoluted (as usual I hear you chime in) but it goes like this. In the 2018 tourney, UMBC shocked everyone when they became the first #16 seed to beat a #1 seed. The team they beat, Virginia, then returned to the Final Four the following year and won it all.
Last year, No. 16 seed Fairleigh Dickinson upset Number 1 seed Purdue. Hence, I am thinking that the Boilermakers will redeem themselves and win it all this year. Let the games begin.
Sticking with things Mid West, sounds like John’s Grandmom story was a little too tame for some of his fans and then the Mayhem Guy seems to have made an appearance (click here.) (There is a Tik Tok video of it somewhere for you to check it out.) This video from a more “uneventful” performance of his. Love the line “And this is all we’ve learned about living.”
