Ned Pratt sent me the following photo of Dale Vallandingham with his Cobra at Buzzy’s this past Thursday evening. Sorry I missed seeing both Dale and the car!
Speaking of guys named Dale, Bobby Wright and I caught guitar legend Dick Dale performing at the Birchmere several years ago. (Pretty sure that I have previously mentioned how it was Dick who told the story about earlier in the day having a drink in the bar and chatting up the attractive bar tender. He asked her “Do you ever date older men?” She replied “Yes. Why, do you have a son?”)
As he introduced “Wipeout” Dick then gave a brief review of how he came to hear and record one of the premiere surf songs ever. As he discussed the tune however, he also encouraged us to do some research into just how the original song came to be.
