Firsts

A middle aged lady in Buzzy’s Country Store recently was fixing to pay for her purchases with a debit card when she asked me “Do you tap?” I told her that I wasn’t sure if my card reader did so, but we could try it and see if it worked. Sure enough it processed the transaction.

As I handed the card back to her I said “Just think, you will always be my first.” She did not say anything, appeared a little flustered, got her items and promptly left. Someone at the counter said “J. Scott, I think you shook her up telling her she was your first.” I had to agree with that assessment and made a mental note – no more “first” jokes to women I don’t know.

That and the overall subject of firsts crossed my mind with the acquisition of my new phone. The main reason I wanted a new phone is because i wanted one with a better camera. Here then is a series of the First Photo’s taken with it.

Technically, officially the first photo taken on my new phone was a screenshot of my phone’s display.

However, I did not take this photo. It was the Verizon sales lady who took it as a screenshot test to ensure that everything was working as it should.

As for my official first photo it was of Pam sitting next to me at the Verizon counter checking out her new phone. While Pam was very pleased with her new phone purchase, my first photo of her wasn’t my best. So, that photo hit the recycle bin. (Makes me think that maybe it’s something I’m doing on my part with women and firsts?!)

It wasn’t until Pam and I got back home later in the day and sat on the deck enjoying the not-so-hot weather that I took what I can show as the first photo with my new phone. Gotta tell you, it’s a real classic. See if you recognize what it is. (The “Hot” clue should give you some idea.)

It is the exterior vent for the gas fireplace insert located in our bedroom. As we were sitting on the deck below it, Pam noticed that it looked like it had a bees’ nest in it. Even wearing my glasses, I couldn’t tell if that was the case or not. Therefore, I took the above photo and enlarged it to see that, as usual, Pam was indeed correct. Thus, I now have “Clean vent” on my list of things to do.

As for my first official Buzzy photo(s) with my new phone, I took these of Brian and Kim at the Buzzy bar:

When it comes to discussing “firsts” this tune sure seems appropriate. It was Foreigner’s first hit tune among several others after it. They finally made it into the R&R HoF earlier this year.
