When it comes to birthday months in the extended Buzzy family, October is THE Birthday Month. (See previous post on significance of saying “The______.”)
It’s only right of course that Buzzy’s birthday fell on the 11th of October. That makes for a good excuse to celebrate with a drink or two on what is usually a holiday weekend as it is this year. (Quiz time – can you name what holiday it is that we celebrate on the second Monday in October? I think that it is still officially Columbus Day but I am not real sure about that.)
But we have several big birthdays this month including Charlie Simms notching 98 on the 8th. Way to go Charlie! Now that he no longer drives, Charlie does not bop into Buzzy’s like he used to and as a result I really do miss seeing him on a daily basis. Whenever he (and Capt. Jerry Norris) would stroll thru Buzzy’s door every day at 4 o’clock, I would always smile and feel a little bit better about life and things in general. Miss seeing them.
Other Buzzy October birthday celebrations commence today as my sister Lila Hofmeister and Connie Lepper start the month off celebrating theirs’ today. Then tomorrow, Kim Wiley and Mike Garrett both celebrate a milestone birthday, and yes we will be having a little party for them at the Store. (Note that “milestone” birthday is defined as one where life’s odometer turns twice.) Mark Dominiak’s day is on the 8th; my Buzzy neighbor Doug Byrne on the 9th; Robby Norris 12th; Chief Larry and Janet Whitt 15th; Joey Porter 17th; Bev Hall 18th; Pam Koon 22nd; Puggie Pulliam 24th; Connie Lynch 25th; David Norris 28th; Winky and Billy Fitzgerald on the 29th; Ned Pratt and Bruce Price on the 31st.
This tune never meant much to me until Mike Raley gave me this card one year on – when else? – my birthday!
