Of the several documents and contents in my Dad’s billfold, the inclusion of these two addresses surprised me a little.
It did not surprise me that he had saved them because he had an envelope adjacent the Store cash register full of addresses of folks whom he had met in his travels. However, what surprised me was that he had saved them in his billfold.
When he and I toured South Africa, we met co-travelers Molly and Joy from Britain. Molly was recently widowed and Joy’s husband did not care to travel so they were out seeing the world as travel companions.
We were all on a tour bus cruising around South Africa for close to three weeks and they became our lunch and dinner companions. As a result, we got to know and become friends with them.
Once we returned home, Dad stayed in contact with Molly. Somewhere along the line when we were traveling through London, we met up with her and Joy and spent a day touring around England’s countryside with them acting as our tour guides. They said they wanted to show us Yankees the non-Londony side of England. It really was a great day visiting British towns and sights around the countryside and having “an insiders” tour courtesy of our hosts Molly and Joy.
When back home several months later, Buzzy told me that Molly had called him and at first he couldn’t believe it. He said that after asking her a couple times and trying to figure out who she was, Molly asked him “For crying out loud Buzzy, just how many British women do you have calling you?!” He said he told her “I guess you got that right.”
Molly and Joy took us to visit Amersham where scenes from Four Weddings and a Funeral were filmed. We saw the inn that was the site where Carrie and Charles got it on after attending the first wedding in the movie. I couldn’t find any videos of that scene; but did manage to land on this funny one that went down after their second rendezvous post wedding 2.
P.S. I had done a previous blogpost wherein I referenced a conversation with Molly and Joy (click here) but did not identify them by name at the time. Ironically, the conversation had to do with the very same Princess Di whom Carrie mentioned at the end of her list of trysts. Go figure. (Be sure to catch Charles’ reaction (2:00) when Carrie tells him that he was 32!)
