Hot Sunday in June, back at bombing some schmucks half way around the world and life is good. Nothing like kicking a little ass and waging some war to brighten one’s day right?
At times like these however, I am always most grateful that sports will help me find “another girl to take my pain away.” (Free drink/beer at Buzzy’s if you come in later and can tell me the source of that lyric.)
First off at 11:30 today, the Orioles will try to take the series finale against the Yankees. O’s have been playing better ball of late and it would be nice to come back home from this road trip having split 4 games with rivals the Rays and then taking two out of three from the NY Dirtbags. Man Bun Kremer is on the mound today, so go O’s!
Later at two o’clock, the NASCAR bubbas will rev ’em up. Because Gary Wood bugs the hell out of me to do so, it will be on the Buzzy Big Screen for your viewing pleasure. (I may use that time to re-stock the beer case and take out the empties.)
And saving the best for last, later on tonight at 8 there is the NBA’s Game 7 between the Pacers and Thunder.
In NBA playoff history, this will mark only the 20th Game 7 for the championship. The home team holds a 15-4 advantage in previous Game 7 showdowns.
Thus, it makes perfect sense to place a bet on the visiting Pacers to win in an upset. Granted, it is a risky bet, but call it a contrarian move. Note also, you can back up that bet, by taking the Pacers and the 7.5 they are getting to cover the spread should they lose. (Dislaimer – I have not lost any money gambling to date this year primarily because I have not bet anything. Proves that an old dog can learn some new tricks.)
Some Game 7 Trivia for you: True or false – Michael Jordan never won a Finals Game 7.
Answer – True. Although he won 6 championships, none of them ever went to a Game 7 in the Finals. Thus, while he never won a Game 7 in the Finals, he never lost one either.
