Arthur “Buck” Briscoe

In tomorrow’s Buzzy Podcast, Chief Larry and I interview the Executive Director of Visit St. Mary’s (VSM) Liz Mildenstein. VSM is our County’s tourism group responsible for promoting St. Mary’s County and all that we have to offer to visitors and residents.

It reminded me of the gentleman who started our tourism-related efforts – Arthur “Buck” Briscoe aka Mr. St. Mary’s County. The following plaque is currently on display in Buzzy’s Country Store.

This photo below from Linda Lepper was in a Buzzyblog post I did a few years back (click here.) It shows Linda’s Great Grandfather and Grandfather posing with Buck after fishing with Capt. Hike and his first mate Randy Guy:

I found the following excerpt from Buck’s obit:

Music-wise, thanks to a tip from my friend Bill MItchell, I was able to watch the Concert for George last night. It is now up there with my top 5 favorite/best rock concert films of all time: The Last Waltz, Woodstock, Hail! Hail! Rock n Roll, Gimme Shelter and Festival Express. In last night’s showing there were some great renditions of George’s tunes including Paul doing Something on a ukulele (yes!)

However, since it is a Sunday, the Lord’s day after all, let’s go with this great version of George’s classic tune sung by Billy Preston. He nails it along with Marc Mann (wearing hat) playing lead guitar (2:45.) Marc probably should have had more FaceTime, but with the likes of Billy, Paul and Ringo along with Clapton, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, George’s son Dhani etc. I guess that there was only so much FaceTime to be had!

Football on at Buzzy’s today. Ravens – Jets and Vikings – Packers @ 1:00. Eagles – Cowboys @ 4:15.
