One day last week as I was stocking the beer cooler in Buzzy’s Country Store, I listened to one of my favorite sportscasters Colin Cowherd discuss Ole Miss Coach Lane Kiffin entertaining coaching offers from other colleges. Colin’s take was that Lane should be content where he is and not be so quick to jump to another SEC school that offers him a bigger paycheck. Colin’s bottom line was “You can never be happier than happy” (click here for story on how LSU and Florida are interested in Kiffin becoming their coach.)
I went looking for a video with Colin saying all of this, but came up empty. However, in my searching that www machine, I landed on something else that eventually took me on an extended spiritual detour.
It was an item from a fellow blogger by the name of Tim Wehse who had also overheard Colin saying something similar. Turns out however, that Tim had heard Colin say it back in 2012.
Once I visited the link, I learned that Tim writes a blog titled “Striving for Reality” where his Colin-related post appeared as follows. (To read what else Tim had to say about Colin’s views on the pursuit of happiness (click here.)

After I read what Tim had to say about Colin, I then spent a couple more hours looking through, reading and enjoying many of his other blog posts. As I said above, it became a semi-spiritual experience for me as I did so. Thank you, Tim! (And thank you Colin for the initial inspirations!)
When it comes to being content, my friend Chief Larry’s latest ChatGPT tune was based on an actual experience when he misplaced his car keys while parked in the Lowes parking lot. He eventually found the keys on his rear bumper where he had placed them as he loaded his purchases in his vehicle. To hear how Larry occupied his lost-keys’ time, take a listen to the following. Love his line (00:47) “Life gets lighter when you let it be what it be.”
