Last Week

After all the Christmasy related over-spending, over-eating, over-drinking and over-socializing, one could make a case that one is glad that it is really over. It makes this coming week leading up to the New Year a bit of a relief in that it allows some down time to relax and regroup.

Some folks refer to it as Twixmas. In the U.K., they call it Crimbo Limbo. Other descriptions include Lazy Week and Week of Nothing. My son Shea in Marathon, Florida tells me that the locals there call it “Hell Week” due to the many tourists, vacationers and house guests there this time of year. I guess it would be too simple to just call it what it is – LWOTY (Last Week Of The Year) and be done with it – literally!

The Buzzy Christmas Party, like Christmas, is a big, noisy, rock and roll affair. On the other hand, Buzzy’s New Year’s Eve Get Together is a lot more laid back and way less crowded. We drop the 10 Ounce Bud on the hour celebrating the New Year arriving in different locales. For example, at 5 pm our time, it is midnight in Athens, Greece. At 6 we hit Rome and at 7 we’re in London. At 8 it’s midnight in the Azores and at 9, Rio de Janeiro. We celebrate these hourly drops by dropping the Bud and tossing down some champagne toasts. After 9 o’clock, you are on your own.

David Norris and his bass player Stu Gheisbert will be playing some tunes for us as we welcome in the New Year Buzzy-style.

Speaking of David Norris, listen to this excellent cover here by him and Roger Trent playing what I think is my all time favorite Bob tune. (I say think because it is always a toss up between this tune and All Along the Watchtower as my favorite.) Roger plays a great guitar solo as David very nicely condenses the multi-versed song down to its core. (He omits a couple of verses but includes the best line “The only thing I knew how to do was to keep on keeping on, like a bird that flew.” (Note how David changes that lyric (1:13) to “Like I had a clue” which I like better and think makes more sense than Bob’s “like a bird that flew.” Then again, who am I to be questioning/critiquing Bob!?
