Holiday Leftovers’ Sequel

In yesterday’s Buzzyblog I posted the following photo and caption:

After publishing it, I received the following text from a friend:

Ok, as Don Henley once said between verses “Are you with me so far?”

It was my good friend Steve Raley who sent me the text. The irony of him doing so is that Pam and I were on the way to have dinner with him and his cousin Christine (and Karen and Tom Russell) when we saw this display and stopped to take the photo. How’s that for some post-holiday synchronicity/serendipity?! Thank you Steve!

Guess that since I quoted it, I should play the tune with the above Don Henley quote. Joe Walsh came up with the song’s guitar riff and in return got a songwriting credit for doing so. It was one of a handful of Eagles’ songs where Joe received a songwriting credit (click here.) I still maintain that Joe does not get as much credit/recognition as he should for having made the Eagles so great. Before he came along, the Eagles were good, but were more of a country band. Joe made ’em rock and took ’em to a whole nother level. This tune is a good example of how he did that:

There are many great “lines” in this song (pun intended.) For example, I always think of it whenever I am checking out of the Doctor’s office and the receptionist informs me that I have a co-pay: “Doctor say he’s coming, but you got to pay in cash.” (3:05 mark.) And even though I may believe that I do not have a co-pay, I am usually “Too tired to fight about it.”

P.S. Please tell me that I am not the only one who sees those palm trees swaying when the video is played!
