Father Merton was always a peace-love-and-understanding kind of guy and his writings are reflective of that point of view.
However, in this particular Easter note below, he comes across a little on the acerbic side of things as he reflects back on the Easter Pontifical Mass.
But even though Merton starts out on a negative note, he does manage to ultimately find himself on the Alleluia side of the Easter equation. Note that I had to look up the zuchetto and cappa magna references. If you are not familiar with those items, here they are:
